This Pride month we are highlighting the importance of feeling seen, heard and proud of who you are.
Positive change is happening for LGBTQ+ visibility in the UK. This year marks 20 years since section 28 was repealed, the law that banned promotion of homosexuality in the UK, marking progress. And LGBTQ+ people are now officially counted in the census after over 200 years.
However, there's more work to be done. Research from Stonewall suggests 1 in 8 LGBTQ+ people avoid gyms and group sports due to fear of discrimination. Together with our LGBTQ+ employee network group, we aim to raise visibility in the fitness industry and share stories of overcoming gym anxiety to inspire others.
Exercise benefits everyone's body and mind. You deserve to feel seen, heard, and proud.
Hear more from Charlotte, Carlos and Ellie on what feeling seen and heard means to them, tips to overcome gym anxiety and the importance of feeling connected with the LGBTQ+ community both in and out of the gym.
At PureGym, we do whatever we can in our local communities to SHOW UP and support LGBTQ+ initiatives and have been involved with Pride events across the UK since our beginnings. Because we believe being visible matters. For the 9th year running we are also proud official sponsors of Manchester Pride this year.
So keep your eyes out for your local PureGym team at Pride events over the next few months!
‘Everybody Welcome' is central to our community and our goal to create a safe and positive space for everyone. Our TrainSafe commitment includes our harassment policy and zero-tolerance approach to any form of harassment in our gyms
